Start with the room, rather than an isolated shape
A lighting cove, a change of level or a perimeter detail should relate to the layout of the room. We review the position of windows, the entrance and the areas people use. A visual reference helps explain the intention, but the proposal is adapted to the room; a photograph is not reproduced without first studying the conditions of the space.
Check the height and proportions
The shape of a ceiling takes up space and can change how a room feels. We review the available height, service routes and variations in the existing base. Before agreeing a ceiling drop or perimeter detail, it is useful to check its relationship with doors, wardrobes and other elements whose positions are already fixed.
Plan lighting and access for maintenance
Indirect lighting needs a shape compatible with the intended fitting and access to its components. We can assess recesses and junctions to incorporate it into the design. Equipment selection, supply, connection and maintenance should be coordinated with the relevant professional and explicitly included when they form part of the proposal.
Use a structure suited to the design
The visible board is only one part of the ceiling. Framing, hangers, fixings and junctions must be selected for the supporting base, the shape and the expected loads. Curves and decorative elements require checks of the product and installation method: not every board can accommodate every radius, and not every object can be suspended from the lining.
Define the finish with the actual lighting in mind
Joint treatment and final decoration are separate tasks. Light from the side or at a shallow angle can make irregularities more noticeable, so the finish level is agreed in relation to the intended lighting and paint. The proposal should identify the preparation included, the surfaces to be treated and whether painting is a separate commission.
Prepare a clear enquiry
To assess the work, provide an overall view of the room and a reference for the shape you have in mind. State the approximate height and the elements you want to retain. This information helps us assess feasibility, identify the measurements that need checking and define the design before settling materials, tasks and conditions.
