Understanding plasterboard

Plasterboard types: choosing a board and system

The right board depends on the use of the space and the performance of the complete assembly. Compare the main families and discover the information we need to assess your project.

Start with the need, then choose the board

Dividing a bedroom, preparing a shower and improving a study call for different decisions. Describe the use, moisture exposure, loads and finish first. A board with additional features does not replace this assessment, and it is not automatically the most suitable choice.

On this website pladur is the everyday Spanish term for plasterboard; PLADUR is a commercial brand. Different manufacturers supply different systems. The quotation identifies the proposed solution, avoiding substitutions that could affect its documented performance.

Board families to compare

Standard board provides a starting point for interior work. Boards with reduced water absorption, specific fire characteristics or increased hardness meet different needs; some products combine features. Each page explains the function, information worth checking and applications that require a different solution.

Sound insulation and room acoustics

Noise arriving from another room differs from reverberation within a room. We therefore distinguish boards for sound-insulating assemblies from perforated boards for room acoustic treatment. Understanding the problem helps choose a solution before deciding how the ceiling or wall should look.

A board belongs to an assembly

Framing, layers, joints, insulation and junctions must match the selected system. Loads, doors, service openings and height also matter. A useful quotation describes these elements so that you can compare alternatives with a consistent scope.

When a specialist system is needed

Exterior exposure, continuous water contact and dry floors need specific products and configurations. Some solutions use gypsum fibre or cement instead of ordinary interior plasterboard. We assess these enquiries and confirm feasibility, requirements and scope before proposing the work.

Information to help us choose

Tell us the town, present and intended use, approximate dimensions and the issue you want to resolve. Include overall photographs and details of junctions, furniture, doors and services. If a technical specification already exists, we review it with the other project information.

Sources and technical documentation

Manufacturer references consulted on 14 October 2026. Selection and performance are confirmed against the current documentation for the system proposed for each project.
