Choose a system intended for floors
Dry screeds use elements and solutions developed to receive loads and provide a base for the floor finish. They are not replaced with standard interior board or an improvised combination of materials. The work is assessed against the manufacturer's configuration and related to the use of the property, available supporting base and intended floor covering.
Review the supporting base and levelling
The condition of the floor slab or existing base affects the solution. Irregularities, damaged areas and layers to retain or remove are checked. The finished height should be coordinated with doors, access points and adjoining rooms; a dry system still requires a compatible base and defined levelling, rather than relying on new boards to conceal any defect.
Consider loads and actual use
A home, storage area or space containing heavy equipment may create different requirements. The configuration should relate to distributed loads, concentrated supports and intended use. We do not offer a universal capacity for every floor; where the work requires it, the technical review of the supporting base and solution is identified before a proposal is prepared.
Assess moisture and the floor finish
Systems have exposure limits and conditions for receiving their floor coverings. Some solutions are unsuitable for permanent damp or continuous contact with water, even where particular interior bathroom applications are allowed. The condition of the base, required protection and compatibility with the flooring are reviewed, without treating a dry screed as waterproofing work.
Coordinate acoustics, height and services
Layers added below or above the elements can affect the height and behaviour of the assembly. Where impact noise is to be addressed, a specific configuration is assessed without transferring catalogue performance to the completed property. Services and the final finish are coordinated; heating or cooling equipment and flooring installation are included only by explicit agreement.
Provide information to establish feasibility
State the surface area, use of the room and flooring you already have or intend to install. Add photographs of the base and the available height at access points and junctions. We use this information to identify necessary checks and assess feasibility before defining layers, levelling, supports and related tasks in a specific proposal.
- Surface area, use and intended equipment.
- Existing base and signs of moisture.
- Available height and junctions with other areas.
- Desired flooring and services to coordinate.
Sources and technical documentation
Manufacturer references consulted on 14 October 2026. Selection and performance are confirmed against the current documentation for the system proposed for each project.
