The complete assembly matters

Fire protection through defined system configurations

Where work requires fire performance, the solution is assessed as a complete system. We review the scope and the checks needed before confirming its feasibility.

Start with the project requirement

Before choosing materials, it is necessary to understand the function of the element and the requirement set by the project. A partition, ceiling or protection for a structural element does not use the same configuration. The enquiry should include available documentation and identify the part that needs technical review before a specific proposal is assessed.

Distinguish the board from the complete system

Type F identifies a board characteristic related to its behaviour at high temperatures. It does not, on its own, assign an EI classification to a partition or ceiling. The resistance of the enclosure depends on the documented configuration: boards, layers, framing, joints, fixings and other specified components. The colour of the board face does not demonstrate the performance of the assembly either.

Maintain continuity at junctions

Service penetrations, openings, access panels and connections to other elements can affect how the solution works. They should be coordinated from the design stage, including doors or components forming part of a separating element. A seemingly small alteration is not treated as a decorative detail when it changes the continuity of a system with required performance.

Check what is already there before altering it

When work affects an existing wall or ceiling, information about hidden layers and materials may be missing. We do not treat a photograph as evidence of its performance. We assess the documentation or checks needed and whether the proposed work can retain a defined configuration, particularly when openings are made or damage is repaired.

Define responsibilities and documentation

Technical specification, selection of a configuration and installation are related decisions, but they are not interchangeable. Depending on the project, a suitably qualified professional may need to define or check requirements. Manufacturer data sheets and tests describe their systems; they are not presented as NIVAREL certifications or an automatic guarantee for any installation.

Request an assessment with a clear scope

To begin, identify the affected element, the use of the building and any project documentation you have. Explain whether the work is new construction, an alteration or a repair. This context helps us assess feasibility and the points needing confirmation; a specific proposal is prepared only when the solution and responsibilities have been sufficiently defined.

  • Element, location and use of the building.
  • Available requirement and technical documentation.
  • Openings, doors and service penetrations.
  • Existing condition and intended alteration.

Sources and technical documentation

Manufacturer references consulted on 14 October 2026. Selection and performance are confirmed against the current documentation for the system proposed for each project.
