Plan before closing the wall

Reinforcement and fixings for the intended use

A wall may need to support furniture, screens or other elements. We assess the loads, fixing points and system so that supports can be organised before the lining is closed or altered.

Explain what will actually be fixed to the wall

Assessing reinforcement requires knowing the object and its use, rather than just its position. A cupboard should be considered with its contents; a screen on an articulated arm creates different conditions from a picture close to the wall. Identify the model, its fixing points and how it will be used to guide the review without assuming a general capacity.

Weight is not the only consideration

Distance from the wall, the distribution of supports and movement of the object affect the forces received by the assembly. The instructions for the object and its bracket or support also matter. The solution cannot be reduced to a universal weight limit: the load must be related to the configuration and fixings that will receive it.

Review an existing wall before selecting fixings

If the partition or lining has already been closed, information about its framing and layers may be missing. A fixing is not chosen solely from the appearance of the surface. We assess the checks needed and whether an area should be opened to incorporate suitable support, avoiding assigning loads to a configuration that is not known.

Plan reinforcement within a new wall

When a wall is yet to be built, the positions of objects can be incorporated into the system definition. Support elements and their relationship with framing and board layers are assessed. This provision should be coordinated with doors, services and the finish, so that the required points are not decided only after the wall has been closed.

Coordinate installation, services and finishes

Reinforcement may coincide with pipes, cables or fittings that also need space. The review organises these junctions and distinguishes construction of the support from fitting the final object. Supply of the bracket, furniture installation and decoration of any opening should be expressly included when they form part of the work, with clear responsibilities.

Gather the information needed to assess the support

Provide an overall view of the wall, the intended position and the data sheet for the object or its support if you have it. Add information about the existing wall and what the furniture will contain. These details help us assess feasibility, the checks needed and the scope of the proposal before selecting a specific configuration.

  • Position, dimensions and type of support.
  • Available information about the wall assembly.
  • Nearby services and finish to restore.
