Moisture assessed carefully

Systems for bathrooms, kitchens and wet areas

Moisture changes the choice of materials and details. We study the actual exposure of the space before proposing boards, framing and junction protection for each project.

Different types of moisture need different consideration

Occasional steam in a kitchen, splashes from a shower and continuous exposure to water create different conditions. An assessment starts with where water reaches, how often this happens and how the space is ventilated. Product classification should relate to that actual use; selecting a board simply by its colour does not define the complete assembly.

A moisture-resistant board is not waterproofing

Boards with reduced water absorption, such as type H1, can form part of interior solutions for controlled moisture conditions. This property does not make a green board waterproof or remove the need to protect exposed points. Where water reaches the surface, seals, finishes and junctions are reviewed according to the selected system and its application conditions.

Investigate the cause before adding a lining

A wall with staining, leaks or deterioration needs the cause of the problem clarified before it is enclosed. A lining should not be used to conceal active damp. In a basement or a room with limited ventilation, a prior assessment of the supporting base and exposure may be needed; the feasibility of the work depends on addressing those conditions.

Consider joints, service openings and loads

The solution includes much more than its visible face: framing, fixings, base details, joints and pipe penetrations must be compatible with the exposure. Tiling, wall-hung furniture or sanitary fittings also introduce loads that need assessment. Their weight and fixing method are considered before the assembly is closed, so that suitable supports or reinforcement can be planned.

Coordinate services and surface finishes

Plumbing, ventilation and electrical work need to be coordinated with the board installation and final decoration. An outstanding repair cannot be regarded as resolved simply by adding a lining. The quotation identifies which tasks are part of our proposal and which belong to other professionals; these boundaries are agreed before work starts.

Prepare information about the room

A useful enquiry distinguishes surfaces close to showers or baths from walls with less exposure. Add general photographs and explain whether there is visible damage or previous work. This information helps identify the checks needed and whether the system is feasible before products, protection, finish and coordination with existing services are defined.

  • Use of the room and exposure to water.
  • Ventilation and visible signs of moisture.
  • Planned finishes, furniture and sanitary fittings.
  • Existing services and previous repairs.

Sources and technical documentation
