What characterises a type F board
The F designation relates to improved core cohesion at high temperatures. PLADUR F includes glass fibre and is specified within interior systems with greater fire protection requirements. Identifying the product helps select it, but does not describe every condition of the construction to be installed. The proposal needs to address the intended application and the complete system.
The product and system need separate checks
Reaction to fire describes the material's behaviour; fire resistance belongs to the complete tested or assessed system. A type F board does not on its own equate to a particular EI classification. Defining compartmentation requires the documented composition and conditions of use to be checked, keeping the proposed construction consistent with the relevant technical evidence and requirements.
Openings, services and junctions
A partition may include doors, boxes, access panels or duct penetrations that need coordination with its protection objective. We need to know about these elements from the start, together with the height and supports. The main construction cannot be considered independently of its interruptions. Details should be planned, rather than improvised after the principal surface has been installed.
The requirement must be defined
Where a design or technical specification exists, provide its drawings and description of the required solution. If a necessary definition is missing, we will identify what the responsible designer needs to confirm before scope can be agreed. We also distinguish compartmentation from the protection of structural elements: their decisions and required checks are not interchangeable between these two interventions.
What a proposal should include
The assessment should identify the system, layers, framing and planned details, together with interfaces awaiting coordination. We will consider whether we can undertake the project and under what conditions. We do not publish a universal fire resistance or claim NIVAREL certification for using a particular board brand. Performance needs to be justified for the specific construction and its applicable conditions.
- Drawings and a defined protection requirement.
- Height, support, doors and service penetrations.
- System documentation and planned junction details.
