Boards that bring a curve into an interior

Curved shapes need more definition than an attractive sketch. We assess the geometry, structure and finish to establish how the design could be built using an appropriate system and agreed details.

What flexible board means

Thinner boards are available for curved surfaces and decorative work. Knauf Techniform is one example of a curvable product with specific installation conditions. Flexible does not mean any board can be bent in any way. The radius, forming method and necessary layers must be checked for the particular product and system rather than assumed from its appearance or thickness.

Define the geometry before requesting a quote

An arch, wavy wall, column lining or ceiling transition each needs different information. To start, provide a measured sketch, the radius or references for the desired shape and where the curve ends. We also need to understand the space available for framing and junctions with straight surfaces. These details allow the design to be assessed beyond a reference image.

The complete construction provides rigidity

Framing, board support and the arrangement of layers must suit the chosen geometry. For Techniform, the manufacturer specifies two layers to obtain suitable rigidity. We do not extend that instruction to every product or replace system documentation with a general rule about thin boards. The composition should be defined for the intended design, its use and the required finishing work.

Lighting and finish are planned together

Side lighting or integrated lighting may make continuity across a curved surface more visible. Define luminaires, changes of plane and decorative finishes before the proposal is finalised. Access panels and services must remain accessible wherever required. A drawing of the whole construction helps coordinate these details with the design, including where lighting equipment and maintenance access will be located.

How to check your idea's feasibility

Send a sketch or inspiration image together with photographs of the location and approximate dimensions. Explain the shape's intended function and whether it will carry equipment or incorporate lighting. We will assess the radius, composition and junctions needed. The proposal will be defined after the relevant checks; a reference image is useful for communicating your preference but cannot replace a construction specification.
